Emma Thatcher (UK) Art for Self Reflection

This months expert workshop leans towards the personal development side of our school program. We will be working with the Art Psychotherapist Emma Thatcher for a session exploring self reflection and overcoming creative blocks.

In this workshop we will hear what art therapy is, how we can use it in our everyday to further our art practices and what external and internal factors affect our wellbeing as artists. The session will begin with a group relaxation followed by three creative exercises exploring playful and reflective art making.

It will cover:

  • Learning about art therapy

  • Learning to use art making for self exploration / knowledge

  • Exploring your own 'artist identity', challenges and support

  • Gaining new techniques to overcome creative blocks

Materials:
Please bring some materials to engage in art making. i.e. pens, pencils, crayons, found images or photos for collage, or crayons, clay / play dough, simple items for sculpture.

Please note:
This workshop is not a therapy session.
The workshop will ask you to engage with self-reflection about you as an artist. You can engage in the material at whatever level you feel safe and supportive for your own wellbeing. You will not be asked to share your images or thought processes with others unless you want to.
