Maria Kapajeva (Estonia) Working with a community

In this expert session Maria will workshop the process of making 'Dream is Wonderful, Yet Unclear' a multi-layered and multi-disciplinary story of the relationships between collective and personal memories by looking at the community surrounding a textile mill in Narva, Estonia, now closed.

 The work discussed personal narratives whilst exploring post-industrial cities worldwide, as they seek new identities. 

The session will include;

  • Step-by-step advice for working with small communities 

  • How to set community projects to larger contexts

  • How to get community projects started (and funded) 

  • Strategies of dissemination such as curating an exhibition, making an artist / photobook and how to include multidisciplinary outcomes such as performance, moving image and textile.
